Clearly 2020 has been one of the more odd years for sports and it’s not even half over. Today was another piece of what has just been a surreal first 3 months of 2020.

With the college basketball post season being cancelled all we have is the ability to look back on the season and enjoy it for what it was. There were so many great moments but it will always be a season with an asterisk. It will be talked about for generations to come and will end up as a jeopardy question at some point. For the people intimately involved in March Madness this has to be a sad and weird day.

My heart breaks for the players who worked their asses off to get to this point. Those that will likely leave early, the seniors – the entire team and staff really. It’s easy to make it all about the fans but all we have to do is watch and root – the players set a list of goals and I’m sure it’s hard for them not to feel empty inside. It’s one thing to compete, and lose it’s entirely another to not even get the opportunity to compete at all.

The regular season is the set-up and the conference and national tournaments are the prize – the proving ground. The biggest stage of their young careers. It had to be done but it’s also hard not to feel for them all.  Thank you to the team and the staff for giving us all that they had and hopefully that empty feeling that comes along with this all goes away. Onward and upward and #goduke.
