DURHAM, N.C. — Statistics for the Graduation Success Rate (GSR) released Wednesday by the NCAA indicated that 97 percent of freshmen student-athletes receiving scholarship aid or recruited individuals participating in programs that do not offer athletic aid graduated from Duke within six years.

The GSR is based on student-athletes who entered college as freshmen in 2009-12 and allows for the removal of those individuals from the cohort who left Duke in good academic standing.

A total of 15 Duke teams achieved a 100 percent GSR for the 2009-12 period: men’s basketball, women’s cross country/track & field, men’s fencing, women’s fencing, field hockey, men’s golf, women’s golf, women’s lacrosse, rowing, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s swimming and diving, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and volleyball.

Duke’s remaining programs – football (96), men’s lacrosse (96), baseball (95), women’s basketball (92), men’s cross country/track & field (90), and women’s swimming & diving (80) – all achieved a GSR of 80 percent of better.

Nationally, Duke ranked third overall among Power 5 institutions behind Northwestern (98) and Notre Dame (98) with an overall GSR total of 97, tied with Vanderbilt (97), and ahead of Stanford (96), Wake Forest (95), Boston College (94), Minnesota (94), South Carolina (94), Utah (94) and Virginia (94). In the ACC, Duke’s overall mark was second behind Notre Dame, and followed by Wake Forest (95), Boston College (94), Virginia (94), Syracuse (93), Miami (92), Clemson (91), Louisville (91), Virginia Tech (91), Pittsburgh (89), Georgia Tech (88), NC State (87), North Carolina (86) and Florida State (82).

In men’s basketball, Duke tied for the national lead with its 100 percent rate. Clemson, Duke, Miami, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Wake Forest all registered perfect scores to lead the ACC followed by Notre Dame (92), Florida State (90), Louisville (89), Boston College (86), Syracuse (80), North Carolina (72), Virginia Tech (73), Georgia Tech (69) and NC State (50).

Duke’s football program ranked second among FBS schools with its 96 percent rate behind only Northwestern (100). Within the ACC, Duke’s 96 percent rate was tops followed by Louisville (91), Boston College (90), Georgia Tech (87), Virginia Tech (87), Virginia (86), Wake Forest (86), Syracuse (85), Clemson (81), Miami (81), Pittsburgh (78), NC State (71), North Carolina (70), and Florida State (60).
