Duke Jumps on The Seminoles 79-60

By February 2, 2013No Comments

If you told me Mason Plumlee would only score 8 points and have 5 rebounds, I would have told you it was a sad day in Tallahassee for Duke and not a blowout. Happy to be wrong, and happy that Seth Curry got his game on, scoring 21 points off of 7-11 shooting. Curry, visibly cheesing, carried the scoring load for Duke but had help in the form of Quinn Cook and Rasheed Sulaimon. Cook would score 18 for Duke and also dish 6 assists to only one turnover in one of this best floor games to date. Sulaimon was aggressive on the offensive end, scoring 14 on 6-of-11 shooting. Duke led by 20 at the half and never looked in the rear view. Florida State never threatened in this game. Defensively, the Devils were as stout as they have been all year, making it difficult on the Florida State shooters. Marksman Michael Snaer was held to 7 points on 3-of-13 shooting and only 1-of-4 from 3 point range. The Seminoles would only register one double figure scorer in the game.

Duke would end up shooting 61% percent from 3 point range and 61% as a whole. Duke would get good minutes from its bench in this game, including 13 minutes from Alex Murphy, who didn’t score but had 3 rebounds and a steal.

In defense of Mason:

Mason did not have a big night in the scoring column or the rebounding column, but gets good marks as a leader tonight. Mason was much more communicative on the floor, and made his mark in other areas as well. Mason would have 3 blocks, 2 steals and 2 assists.

Duke’s defense would hold Florida State to 23% shooting from 3 and 41 percent overall. No Florida State starters scored in double figures and only had one assist overall.

Duke will need this win and the momentum it provides with a rematch coming up against NC State in Durham on Thursday.
