In a youtube video posted Sunday former Duke Blue Devils, Atlanta Hawks and Houston Rockets guard AJ Griffin is officially quitting basketball to follow his faith.  Once his plans became apparent Griffin was waived by the Houston Rockets earlier this month.

After a good rookie season for the Hawks that saw AJ score 9 points a game in just under 20 minutes per contest, his second season was marred by several injuries including a lower leg contusion in March 2024 and a severe ankle sprain. As a freshmen at Duke AJ averaged 10.4 points and shot 44.7% from 3-point range.

Faith has always been a big part of AJ’s life and while attending Duke he would regularly lead players who shared his faith in prayer sessions and bible study. It appears that AJ is fully invested in following his faith and is wide open to what comes next – he seems both excited and fully content with his basketball exit.
