Game Preview Summary by @RandyDunson – Duke Blue Devils vs. Elon University Phoenix

By December 21, 2016No Comments

Was able to come up with a brief summary to supplement Brian’s preview.

Over at Greensboro Coliseum on Wednesday, the Duke Blue Devils will be taking on the Elon Phoenix in college basketball action.

Elon sits at 7-4 on the year so far, with losses to Charlotte, Georgetown, UNC Asheville and Radford. Otherwise, the Phoenix have posted wins over William Peace, South Florida, UIC, Northern Illinois, Cal Poly, Florida International.

Elon has several key scorers on their squad, led by Brian Dawkins (12.5 PPG; 4.8 RPG), Tyler Sebring (12.4 PPG; 6.5 RPG) and Steve Santa Ana (12.0 PPG; 4.0 RPG). Luke Eddy and Dainan Swoope are also averaging in double-figures for the Phoenix; Eddy has 11.4 PPG and Swoope has 10.6 PPG.

Over on our side, we’re sitting at 11-1 on the season. The Blue Devils’ lone blemish is a November 15 loss to Kansas, but otherwise they’ve dispatched Marist, Grand Canyon, Penn State, Rhode Island, William & Mary, Appalachian State, Michigan State, Maine, Florida, UNLV and Tennessee State.

Duke has some great scoring up top as well, led by Luke Kennard with 20.3 PPG and 5.8 RPG, and Grayson Allen, with 17.2 PPG and 4.8 RPG. Jayson Tatum (14.8 PPG; 7.5 RPG; four games), Amile Jefferson (14.3 PPG; 11.1 RPG) and Frank Jackson (12.7 PPG) are averaging in double-figures for the Blue Devils as well.

Elon is a very well-rounded team and they’ve got the ability to get scoring out of the majority of their lineup. I still like Duke to pull this one out, as they’re obviously a much better team, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Elon keep it close for a good part of the game. I’m staying away from a score prediction. 😀
