Bagley Named All-America by Sporting NewsUSA Today

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke freshman Marvin Bagley III has been named to a pair of All-America teams, earning first-team distinction from Sporting News and USA Today.

Duke has had at least one All-America pick in each of the last 11 seasons. Bagley’s selection gives Duke its 68th all-time All-America selection, with 46 of them coming under head coach Mike Krzyzewski.

The 6-foot-11 forward from Phoenix, who is also a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award, the James Naismith Award, and the Karl Malone Award, is tied for the ACC scoring lead (20.7) and leads the ACC in rebounding (11.2). He was named both the ACC Player and Rookie of the Year, becoming just the second player in the conference’s history to sweep the two awards in a single season (Duke’s Jahlil Okafor in 2015).

Bagley leads the ACC with a Duke freshman record 19 double-doubles and is shooting .604 from the field, which ranks second in the ACC and 17th in the country. His 80 dunks are also a Duke freshman record and more than Duke’s opponents have combined for against the Blue Devils this season (76). He has an ACC freshman record six 30-point games this season. His 11 games of 20-points and 10-rebounds and seven games with 15+ rebounds are each Duke freshman records.

No. 5 Duke (25-6, 13-5) has the second-seed in the ACC Tournament and opens play Thursday at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
