Duke had no trouble with a feisty Bryant team, dispatching of the Bulldogs 113-75 in their second game of the season. Duke was lead in the scoring column by sophomore Grayson Allen who follows his 26 point performance last night with 28 tonight. Allen also added 6 assists and went 3 of 7 from beyond the arc. After a 1-9 performance from range in his first real college game freshman Brandon Ingram went 4-6 against Bryant, scoring 21 points. Ingram also had 2 steals and a blocked shot. Matt Jones scored a career high for the Devils with 19 points. Jones went 5-6 from the 3 point range and 7 of 9 overall. Duke as a whole shot 50% from 3 point range which is in stark contrast to the 24% in the game last night. Duke also got double figure efforts from senior Amile Jefferson and freshman Luke Kennard who scored 11 each.

Duke has been disjointed at times on both ends of the floor but has managed to keep turnovers to a minimum. Duke did not defend the perimeter well against the Bulldogs who shot a whopping 50% from 3 point range, actually making the exact same number the Devils made. Where Duke had the distinct advantage was in free throw disparity where Dukes constant driving to the basket manifested itself in a 22-29 effort from the charity stripe – in contrast Bryant as a team went 6-12 from the foul line. Duke also out-rebounded the Bulldogs ending with a 43 to 27 difference. The most telling stat was the steals disparity where Duke had a 14 to 1 advantage. Overall the turnover differential was 19 to 6 and Duke used live ball turnovers to trigger fast break buckets. Duke was dominant in points off of turnovers winning it 24 to 7 and fast break points saw an edge by Duke of 14 to 2.

Duke will have to work on its perimeter defense going forward but playing as many freshmen as they did tonight it’s no surprise that assignments were blown.
