Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils have landed an important, needed and highly regarded recruit in Trevor Keels. Keels attends Paul VI High School in Fairfax, VA and if that names sounds familiar it’s because current Blue Devil guard Jeremy Roach attended and played alongside Trevor.
The 6’5, 210lb shooting guard out of Virginia chose the Blue Devils over his home town Cavaliers, Villanova and the Kentucky.
Keels brings size and shooting to a depleted backcourt who just hours earlier saw the departure of freshmen DJ Steward, who declared for the NBA Draft, and the graduate transfer of Jordan Goldwire. Originally slated to make his college choice on Sunday, Keels moved his announcement to Friday at the halftime of the GEICO Nationals
At 6’5 and 210lbs, Trevor Keels is a strong guard with a college ready body who can score at three levels. Keels is a good ball handler, good passer and has been rebounding his position well. Trevor is averaging nearly 30 points, 8 assists and 8 rebounds a game during his senior campaign.
Keels gives Duke a 3 man class that includes fellow 5 Star prospects: AJ Griffin and Paolo Banchero.
With 4 departures so far and the possibility of 1-3 more expect Duke to dip their proverbial toes in the rich waters of the transfer portal or the plethora of players de-committing during this crazy offseason. Keels gives Duke a roster of: Jeremy Roach, Trevor Keels, Wendell Moore, Joey Baker, Adrian Griffin, Matthew Hurt, Mark Coleman, Paolo Banchero and Mark Williams. Most expect Matthew Hurt to join DJ Steward in declaring for the draft and there are inklings of others possibly exiting. This could leave the Blue Devils in dire need of depth.
