So Coach K has been giving less and less face time to other players aside from the starters, more specifically Singler, Scheyer and Smith. It’s a story that isn’t going to go away until Duke has legs come March, that hasn’t been the case in a very long time. A lot of fans don’t want to hear it, they don’t want to hear anyone criticize the state of the union. I’m not that kind of fan, I don’t think there is anything wrong with questioning, asking or putting your two cents in–it’s part of being a fan, it’s part of what makes it fun to be a fan.
There are two sides to everything, of course you want to win games, and sometimes that means putting your best people on the floor. Some might argue that you aren’t giving your younger guys a chance to win or a chance to fail. There really isn’t a way that you can’t get criticized, it’s just unfortunate for Duke that with past successes always breathing down your neck people will always look to pick apart your failures.
It’s hard to know what Coach is thinking and he isn’t likely to impart that knowledge on the fan base or the pundits anything soon, but in my opinion if we are mid-February and haven’t established a decent rotation I don’t see this year ending much better than any of the past few. Every other team is watching, and thinking that if they can throw enough fresh bodies at the Devils that they will wilt. It may not be the case in January but around the midway to end of the ACC season let’s ask that question again.
