Well, we can call this first half of basketball “The Awakening”. Mason and Miles Plumlee have taken the team on their backs and are playing with confidence and even some swagger. Mason so far has 10 points and 6 boards and his brother Miles, who started the game, has a double-double at the half with 13 points and 11 boards. If it wasn’t by necessity, this game would have been a blowout, but Duke is not getting the offensive performances it normally does from Jon Scheyer, Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler who are a combined 5 of 28.
Duke is winning the rebounding battle, which is where a good portion of the Plumlee points are coming. This is a good sign for the future of this team, the Plumlees are for real and doing it against good competition and a possible ACC Player of the Year candidate in Aminu.
If Duke can get it going from the outside, this game will be over fast, balance scoring isn’t something we have gotten most of the year but it is nice to see that frontline maturing quickly as the meat of the ACC schedule draws near….
