I can’t say I worried too much about this game going in St. Johns hasn’t really been tearing it up, and the Devils have. Seems like Duke has one of these. I remember the Georgetown game where they were demolished a while back, and a Clemson game were they were just torn apart. It happens and you have pretty much just move on from it. Duke was outplayed in every facet of the game. Defensively Duke was slow, not active, and didn’t seem to ever really get their motor running. This was due more to St. Johns just being the better team in this game. They had an excellent game plan and executed it to perfection. They easily dismantled the Devils on both ends of the floor. 9 assists as a team and 17 turnovers is something not possible for this team to overcome. Duke allowed St. Johns to run all over them, allowing 5 double figure scorers. Just an abysmal performance overall but St. Johns deserves all the credit for completely coming out from the beginning and playing their game. Knowing what we know about Duke basketball there is re-tooling and tape watching and consequences. It’s getting to that point of the season where teams need to figure out who they are, and who they are going to be. Champions while not crowned in January or February, how you play leading up to the tournament is important. It will be interesting to see how this team responds.
