Not much drama surrounding the 81-54 drubbing of the Pitt Panthers by Duke. For Pitt, the winless streak in the ACC continues with the Panthers dropping to 0-7 in league play while the Blue Devils move to 5-2, 17-2 overall.
Duke was carried most of the way by their tandem freshmen bigs Wendell Carter Jr and Marvin Bagley III. The bigs combined for 41 points and 15 rebounds. The young bigs also combined to go 2-3 from beyond the arc. Generally for Duke the contributions of Carter and Bagley are a given. What Duke fans have been hoping for was a big game out of their struggling senior Grayson Allen. Allen scored 16 points and shot 5-11 from the floor and 4-10 from beyond the arc. It may have taken a flagrant foul by Pitt’s Kene Chukwuka on Allen to get his dander up and for the rest of the game Allen was aggressive and more animated than he has been in recent weeks.
Duke finished with 24 points off of 15 Pitt turnovers and 18 second-chance points as they won the rebounding battle 36-26. Next up for Duke is a road game at Wake Forest.
