Marques Bolden today announced his intentions to attend Duke University and be coached by hall-of-famer Mike Krzyzewski. Bolden, a 6’11 center out of DeSoto High School, will be the final piece to a stud class that includes: Frank Jackson, Jayson Tatum, Jack White, Harry Giles and Javin DeLaurier. Marques should bring both depth, rebounding and low post scoring to a stacked team that should be ranked preseason #1 by most media outlets.
Bolden bolsters a very good front court and gives Duke the power and the depth it lacked this past season. Bolden who goes 6’10 to 6’11 depending on who you believe and weighs in at 250lbs. Bolden can score with either hand and can run the floor with the best of them and has excellent touch around the basket. As soft spoken as he is in interviews he can be when his motor is running a real beast in the middle, if he can play with that edge on a consistent basis he can really change the game for Duke in the low post, something they lacked this past season.
The recruitment of Bolden, who chose Duke over Kentucky and dark horse TCU, has seemed to be rife with twists, turns and indecision with both Duke and Kentucky fans at one time or another thinking their school was in the lead for his services. In the end it was Duke but I doubt it was Duke by a wide margin.
