On the heels of a surprise commitment from top 40 PF/C Kyle Filipowski, the first for coach-in-waiting Jon Scheyer, Duke lands a commitment from top 10 small forward Dariq Whitehead out of Monteverde Academy. Duke fended off strong pushes from Florida State, Kansas and an NBA G-League contract worth around 500K. The 6’6, 190lb Whitehead adds a A-type personality and player to the squad and a wing player that has an attack first personality. Whitehead follows the mode of versatile wings Duke has coveted, guy that can play multiple positions and guard multiple positions. Whitehead also brings a pro-level body and a measure of athleticism to Scheyer’s first season. Whitehead made the First Team honors playing for Team Durant at the recent Peach Jam where he averaged 17.4 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 3.9 APG, 1.4 SPG. Team Durant
