Duke takes on 10 and 4 MD in Cameron on Sunday January 9th. Maryland should provide Duke with a tough test. Even without Greivis Vasquez, Maryland has big capable guards in Sean Mosely a 6’4 junior, 6’2 senior Adrian Bowie and 6’4 senior Cliff Tucker. All are averaging at or around double figures but the true area of concern on this MD team is Jordan Williams, who is perhaps the best big man in the ACC. Williams averages 18 points and 12 rebounds a game and continues to step up in his sophomore campaign. Just like Dukes primary big man Mason Plumlee Williams is a poor free throw shooter which is the only knock in his game. Dukes 3-headed frontcourt will have to find a way to keep Williams uncomfortable in the lane while staying out of foul trouble.
Kyle Singler should be Dukes matchup advantage in this game and should be able to back down or shoot over smaller MD players or make taller defenders drift and cover him on the perimeter.
Duke will have to be successful from the outside to try to counter MD who will look to pound the ball inside.
