Grayson Allen Becomes Duke’s 19th Repeat All-American
DURHAM, N.C. – Duke senior guard Grayson Allen has been named an All-American by USA Today and selected as one of five national finalists for the Jerry West Award. Allen becomes a two-time All-America selection, having first earned honors in 2016.
Allen’s selection gives Duke 47 All-America selections under head coach Mike Krzyzewski and 69 in school history. A third-team pick, Allen joins USA Today first-teamer Marvin Bagley III on this year’s All-America team, giving the Blue Devils multiple All-Americans for the 18th time, and the first time since 2013.
Allen is Duke’s 19th repeat All-American, and the first since J.J. Redick and Sheldon Williams each repeated in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
The five finalists for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award are Allen, Jerome Robinson (Boston College), Marcus Foster (Creighton), Kendrick Nunn (Oakland) and Carsen Edwards (Purdue).
Allen is second on the team and 12th in the ACC in scoring at 15.5 points per game. The Jacksonville, Fla., native is ninth in the league in assists per game (4.6), fifth in steals per game (1.7), fifth in free-throw shooting (.850) and fifth in three-pointers per game (2.6).
The senior, who is the ACC’s active career leader in points and three-point field goals, has scored 1,904 career points to rank 18th on Duke’s all-time list. Allen is fifth at Duke in career three-pointers (270) and seventh in career free-throw percentage (.834). Allen is a two-time All-ACC pick, earning first-team honors in 2016 and third-team accolades this season.
No. 5 Duke (25-6, 13-5) has the second-seed in the ACC Tournament and opens play Thursday at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
