SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced the field and brackets for the 2016 Hall of Fame Tip-Off on Wednesday, setting up a matchup between Duke and Penn State on Nov. 19 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
Depending on the results of the Nov. 19 games, Duke will square off with either Cincinnati or Rhode Island at Mohegan Sun on Sunday, Nov. 20.
“Each year, we try to put ourselves in an outstanding non-conference schedule against talented competition,” Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “To be able to do so in an event run by the Basketball Hall of Fame is an honor for our program. The Hall of Fame does a great job with this tournament, and we’re excited to take part this year.”
Duke holds an 8-1 lead in the all-time series with Penn State, though the schools haven’t met on the hardwood since Dec. 30, 1970. The Blue Devils are 2-1 all-time against Cincinnati and 3-0 versus Rhode Island.
Tickets for the games in Uncasville go on sale at 10 a.m. ET on Friday, Sept. 9, at all Ticketmaster outlets and the Mohegan Sun Arena box office.
Prior to its two games at Mohegan Sun Arena, Duke will open the regular season at Cameron Indoor Stadium against Grand Canyon and Albany on Nov. 11 and 12, respectively, in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off campus round.
Game times and TV information will be announced at a later date. For more information, visit halloffametipoff.com.
On the heels of a 25-win season and a Sweet 16 appearance in 2016, Duke welcomes back a veteran core led by graduate student Amile Jefferson, senior Matt Jones and junior All-American Grayson Allen for the 2016-17 campaign. The Blue Devils also add one of the nation’s most heralded recruiting classes to the fold, a group of five headlined by forward Harry Giles, guard Frank Jackson and forward Jayson Tatum.
