The Duke men’s basketball program unveiled Tuesday the team’s complete non-conference schedule for the 2023-24 season.
Seven of the games have previously been announced, with the balance of Duke’s 11-game non-conference slate beginning with the season opener on Monday, Nov. 6 versus Dartmouth at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The 2023 ACC Champions remain home that week to welcome Arizona (Friday, Nov. 10) before facing Michigan State in the State Farm Champions Classic on Tuesday, Nov. 14 in Chicago. Three games in the Blue Devil Challenge (vs. Bucknell on Nov. 17, vs. La Salle on Nov. 21 and vs. Southern Indiana on Nov. 24) follow the Spartans.
Duke is at Arkansas on Wednesday, Nov. 29 for the inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge, then returns home for a pair of non-conference games versus Charlotte on Saturday, Dec. 9 and Hofstra on Tuesday, Dec. 12. After battling Baylor at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 20, Duke caps its non-ACC ledger by welcoming Queens to Cameron Indoor Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 30.
Entering their second year under head coach Jon Scheyer, the Blue Devils return four starters and 80 percent of their scoring from last year’s team that went 27-9 overall, 14-6 in the ACC and claimed the program’s league-record 22nd ACC title.
Duke’s first event at Cameron Indoor Stadium in 2023-24 is Countdown to Craziness on Friday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. UNC Pembroke will serve as the lone exhibition game, which is set for Wednesday, Nov. 1 at Cameron Indoor at 7 p.m.
The ACC schedule has yet to be announced, but Duke will welcome North Carolina, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Boston College, Clemson, Syracuse and Virginia to Cameron Indoor. On the road, the Blue Devils will battle North Carolina, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Florida State, NC State, Miami and Virginia Tech.
Season ticket renewals for the 2023-24 season will begin in August and the Duke MBB Waitlist opens in October. Wednesday, Nov. 1 vs. UNC Pembroke (Exhibition)
Duke and UNC Pembroke have never met … the Braves were 26-4 overall last year, 18-2 in Conference Carolina and reached the Southeast Regional of the NCAA Division II Tournament … The team returns its top two scorers from last season in junior guards Bradlee Haskell (13.2 ppg) and JaJuan Carr (10.2).
Monday, Nov. 6 vs. Dartmouth (Cameron Indoor Stadium)
Duke has won 23 straight season openers and is 91-27 all-time in season openers … Duke and Dartmouth have never met … The Big Green was 10-18 overall last season and 6-8 in the Ivy League … The game marks Duke’s 66th versus an Ivy League school (56-9) and first since beating Brown, 75-50, on Dec. 28, 2019 at Cameron Indoor.
Saturday, Dec. 9 vs. Charlotte (Cameron Indoor Stadium)
Duke leads the all-time series 6-1 … The teams last met on Nov. 17, 2009 – a 101-59 Duke victory behind a 20-point, five-rebound, five-assist effort from then-senior Jon Scheyer … Charlotte was 22-14 last season (9-11 in Conference USA) and won the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) – the school’s first postseason tournament title … The 49ers departed C-USA and are now members of the American Athletic Conference … Sophomore guard Nik Graves is a Durham native and played his prep basketball at Greensboro Day School.
Tuesday, Dec. 12 vs. Hofstra (Cameron Indoor Stadium)
Duke and Hofstra have never met … The Pride was 25-10 last season and 16-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association, falling in the CAA semifinals and in the second round of the NIT … Hofstra won 12 consecutive games before its loss in the CAA Tournament … Head Coach Speedy Claxton, a seven-year NBA veteran, enters his third season after leading the Pride to 20-win campaigns in each of his first two seasons.
Saturday, Dec. 30 vs. Queens (Cameron Indoor Stadium)
Duke and Queens have never met … Queens University of Charlotte began its four-year transitional period from Division II to Division I on July 1, 2022 … The Royals were 18-15 overall last season and 7-11 in the ASUN Conference as first-year Division-I members.
