Okafor Named ACC Freshman of the Week; Duke Center Claims Award for Third Straight Week

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke center Jahlil Okafor was named Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Week for the third straight week, while Miami guard Sheldon McClellan claimed Player of the Week honors. Okafor topped the 20-point mark in a pair of home wins as the Blue Devils improved to 7-0 on the year heading into Wednesday’s ACC/Big Ten Challenge matchup with No. 2 Wisconsin.
Okafor averaged 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocks per game, while shooting 20-of-28 (.714) from the field in wins over Furman and Army. The Chicago native recorded his first career 20-point game against Paladins, finishing with 24 points to go along with seven rebounds (four offensive), three assists and two blocks. He made his final 12 shots from the field and finished 12-of-14 (.857) overall. In the win over Army, Okafor collected 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field and 5-of-9 from the free throw line. He also grabbed eight rebounds, including six offensive boards, in the win.
Okafor has now scored in double figures in all seven games this season and is averaging 17.7 points per game on 63.6 percent (56-of-88) shooting.
