Tre Day: Tre Jones (@trejones03) Chooses Duke!!

By August 13, 2017October 6th, 2017No Comments

It’s Duke for the newest Apple Valley Assassin, Tre Jones. A 6’2 point guard who follows his brother Tyus to Durham and eventually to the league. Jones chose Duke over his hometown University of Minnesota, Ohio State, UCLA, Oregon and USC.

It really isn’t possible to talk about Tre Jones without thinking of his brother. It just goes along with being a sibling in the same sport. Harder even for the separation when the too Apple Valley ballers share the same position, the same initials and now the same college choice but make no mistake about Tre Jones – he is not Tyus. Those who seek to paint him with the same brush as his brother are doing themselves an injustice. Tre is his own player and has forged his own path up the rankings by being a tenacious competitor.

Tre’s Time
Tre is a floor general who has elevated his game and notched his spot as the top point guard in the nation. A scoring point guard, Tre has mastered the duality of being able to effectively get his guys involved in the offense and knowing when to get himself in position to score the basketball. Tre has shared the stage with top talent including his brother as an 8th grader playing varsity at Apple Valley and also current Duke freshman Gary Trent, who played the off-guard alongside Tre. Duke is also recruiting the number 2 point guard in the country Darius Garland to play with Jones. Both have expressed interest in playing together and if you know your Duke history, playing 2 point guard has been a good recipe for post season success under Coach K and crew.

Family Business
From mom Debbie, to Tre and Tyus’s dad Rob, to older brother Jadee and most recently Tyus basketball has been the brand of the Jones family. So while Tyus may have cast the most recent shadow, it’s nothing that has had to worry about. It’s a family of ballers who know not only how recruiting goes but how the business of basketball works. Tre couldn’t be in a better position to take advantage of his skills. There is no pressure minus the pressure he puts on himself.

What Could Be
Tre is the first commit in what could be a monster class in 2018 for the Devils. Duke is recruiting (mentioned above) Darius Garland, Cam Reddish, Romeo Langford, RJ Barrett, Nas Little, Zion Williamson and Marvin Bagley among others.
