Coach-K-Bobby-KnightDuke University basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski will receive AUSA’s 2014 George Catlett Marshall Medal, the highest award presented by the organization. Coach K, described as the “legendary head basketball coach” of the Blue Devils, will be honored for his longtime support of the military and their families, according to AUSA.

The medal is awarded annually to an individual who has “exhibited selfless service to the United States of America,” officials said.

“As an exceptional patriot, Mike Krzyzewski is not only an American icon familiar to the nation while pacing on the sidelines during a Blue Devils basketball game, but he is also an extraordinary mentor to our nation’s youth – both military and civilian,” the AUSA president, retired Gen. Gordon R. Sullivan, said in a news release. “He is acclaimed for successfully molding character, mentoring our young men and women, and developing leadership through his example and athletic programs.”
