Duke freshman guard/forward Cooper Flagg continued his record-setting season, winning his 12th Rookie of the Week honor of the season, the conference announced on Monday, March 10.
Flagg expanded his lead over Kenny Anderson (Georgia Tech, 1990), Tyler Hansbrough (North Carolina, 2006) and Jabari Parker (Duke, 2014) who won the award 10 times, the previous ACC record prior to this season.
During Duke’s 2-0 week, Flagg averaged 21.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 3.5 blocks and 1.0 steal per game, while shooting 51.6% (16-of-31) from the field, 40.0% (4-of-10) from behind the arc and 87.5% (7-of-8) from the free-throw line.
The freshman amassed 28 points, eight boards, seven assists, three rejections and two steals in a 93-60 win over Wake Forest, then posted 15 points, nine caroms, six helpers and four swats in an 82-69 road victory over North Carolina to clinch the ACC regular-season championship for the Blue Devils.
Over the last 11 seasons (since the start of 2013-14), Duke has had an ACC Rookie of the Week in 99 of a possible 204 weeks (48.5%). Twenty-seven different Blue Devils have won the award at least once in that time.
No. 2 Duke (28-3, 19-1 ACC) begin postseason play on Thursday, March 18, in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament. The Blue Devils will tip off at noon at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, playing the winner of a second-round matchup between Georgia Tech and Virginia.
