Duke freshman guard Jared McCain has been named ACC Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for his performance during the Blue Devils’ two victories last week.

McCain averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in wins over Louisville and Clemson, while shooting 11-of-21 (52.4%) from the field, 5-of-12 (41.7%) from behind the arc and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.In Saturday’s triumph over Clemson, McCain scored a game-high 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor, including 3-of-7 from long distance, while adding five boards, three steals and two assists. With 2:03 remaining in the contest and the Tigers holding a four-point advantage, he registered steals on three consecutive possessions to help Duke go on a 5-0 run and take the lead with 15 seconds left.

In a road victory at Louisville last Tuesday, McCain contributed 10 points, four rebounds and two steals.

This is Duke’s first ACC Rookie of the Week honor this season and the second conference weekly award overall, as sophomore center Kyle Filipowski was declared ACC Player of the Week on Dec. 18.
On Dec. 26, McCain was recognized as the CBS Sports/United States Basketball Writers Association Freshman of the Week for his performance during the Blue Devils’ 78-70 victory over No. 10 Baylor inside Madison Square Garden.
A native of Sacramento, California, McCain is averaging 12.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game, while adding a team-high 42 3-pointers, 30 assists and 20 steals.
