Freshman Kyle Filipowski has been named the ACC Rookie of the Week for the third consecutive week. Filipowski is the only Duke player to score in double figures in every game this season and is just the third Blue Devil since the 2014-15 season to win the award in three consecutive weeks (Paolo Banchero, Jahil Okafor).
Over the last 10-plus seasons (since the start of 2013-14), the ACC Rookie of the Week has been a Blue Devil in 77 of a possible 156 weeks. 22 different Duke freshmen have won the award at least once in that time.
The Westtown, N.Y., native recorded his fourth double-double of the season in Duke’s win over Oregon State on Nov. 24, with a career-high 19 points alongside 14 rebounds. Filipowski scored 12 points while swiping a career-high four steals the following afternoon in the Blue Devils win against Xavier. In Duke’s four games last week, Filipowski averaged 15.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
His 9.4 rebounds per game are second nationally among freshmen, and his four double-doubles are the most nationally by a freshman.
Duke returns to Cameron Indoor Stadium for the ACC-Big Ten challenge on Wednesday night, hosting Ohio State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. on ESPN.
