Per Duke Comms:

Duke men’s basketball sophomore forward Kyle Filipowski has been named a Preseason First Team All-American by the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook.

The only underclassman on the first team, Filipowski is joined by senior Hunter Dickinson of Kansas, senior Zach Edey of Purdue, senior Tyler Kolek of Marquette and graduate Justin Moore of Villanova.

Filipowski returns to Duke for his sophomore campaign after being named ACC Rookie of the Year, ACC Tournament MVP, an honorable mention All-American and the Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year following the 2022-23 season. The Westtown, N.Y., native led the Blue Devils in scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.1 and 8.9, respectively. Filipowski began his time at Duke as the program’s first freshman with three consecutive double-doubles to open a career and became the ACC’s first freshman all-time to win the league’s Rookie of the Week award in the season’s first four weeks.

He finished the year with 31 double-digit scoring efforts and his 15.1 points per game were seventh most by a freshman nationally. Filipowski led all Division-I freshmen with his 16 double-doubles, which ranked 11th in the NCAA overall, while his 322 rebounds were tied for the third most by a Duke freshman all-time and ranked 20th nationally.

In Duke’s run to the ACC Tournament title, the freshman averaged 19.7 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 24-of-36 (.667) from the field, including a 20-point, 10-rebound performance in the championship game win over Virginia. He became the program’s ACC-leading 21st winner of the ACC Tournament MVP trophy and the seventh overall freshman to do so.
