DURHAM, N.C. – Duke head men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski announced the signing of two student-athletes during the early signing period.

Wendell Moore
 and Rejean “Boogie” Ellis will enter the Duke program in 2019-20. Moore is rated as a five-star wing from Charlotte, while Ellis is a four-star guard from San Diego. Each are top 40 prospects in the ESPN100. Moore is the top-ranked player in the state of North Carolina and Duke’s first Queen City signee since Seth Curry in 2012-13.

The early signing period ended November 21, with the NCAA’s regular signing period for basketball beginning April 17, 2019.

Wendell Moore – 6-6 – 210 – Forward – Charlotte, N.C. (Cox Mill HS)

  • Five-star wing
  • Ranked No. 18 in the ESPN 100 and the No. 3 small forward
  • Top-ranked player in North Carolina
  • Averaged 17.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists and shot .531 from the field in the Nike EYBL circuit for Team CP3
  • A two-time gold medalist with USA Basketball as a member of the 2017 FIBA Americas U16 Championship team and the 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup team
  • Averaged 25 points, 2.9 assists and 2.3 steals to help Cox Mill win its second straight 3A state title this past season
  • Has won back-to-back North Carolina state finals MVP honors
  • Is a 2,000-point scorer for Cox Mill HS
  • Becomes Duke’s first Charlotte-area player since former Charlotte Christian star Seth Curry played for the Blue Devils during the 2012-13 season
  • Chose Duke over in-state ACC rivals North Carolina, Wake Forest and NC State

Rejean “Boogie” Ellis – 6-2 – 170 – Guard – San Diego, Calif. (Mission Bay HS)

  • Four-star guard
  • Ranked No. 40 in the ESPN 100 for the 2019 class
  • Averaged 23.0 points and 5.0 rebounds at the Nike Peach Jam for the Oakland Soldiers
  • Averaged 24 points, six rebounds and six assists per game on his way to being named the San Diego Section Player of the Year following his junior year
  • Led Mission Bay HS to the Open Division championship his junior campaign, finishing the season with a 27-6 record
  • Other Duke greats from southern California have included Cherokee Parks (Huntington Beach), Jay Bilas (Rolling Hills), Ricky Price (Carson) and Chip Engelland (Pacific Palisades)
  • Chose Duke over North Carolina, USC, Memphis and San Diego State
