Recruitng Questions (just where my mind goes)

By September 11, 2013No Comments

So with Reid Travis visiting Duke this week and Duke pushing for a commitment, where does that leave Duke with other recruits it covets. I am not nor will ever be a recruiting insider so anything I say in regards to it should be taken with a grain of salt, just asking questions really.

Duke has offers to 2 power forwards currently, Reid Travis and Kevon Looney, both are highly rated but Duke has been on Looney the longest. Does this interest in Travis mean a cooling with Looney? And is it possible to land both?

Lets examine who Duke will definitely be losing next year:

  • Andre Dawkins
  • Josh Hairston
  • Tyler Thornton
  • Todd Zafirovski

Also, take into account Duke has a commitment from Grayson Allen currently, which leaves 3 spots guaranteed open.  Now it is possible Duke could lose Jabari Parker and or Rodney Hood after this year and with both expected to be high value picks in next years draft it is probable. Theoretically, if Duke were lucky or unlucky enough that both players have draft-worthy years then 6 spots open up. In my own perfect world Duke could land:

  • Tyus Jones
  • Grayson Allen
  • Justise Winslow
  • Reid Travis
  • Kevon Looney
  • Jahlil Okafor

it won’t happen but wouldn’t that rock? Most likely Duke will only get one of the other (Travis / Looney). Looney quite possibly is a one and done talent, while Travis could be around for a few years so it wouldn’t technically be Duke recruiting over Travis should he decide to commit and Looney decide to join him. Feel free to comment and let me know how you feel on this issue and any knowledge you may have to impart.
