Recruitng Questions (just where my mind goes)

So with Reid Travis visiting Duke this week and Duke pushing for a commitment, where does that leave Duke with other recruits it covets. I am not nor will ever be a recruiting insider so anything I say in regards to it should be taken with a grain of salt, just asking questions really.

Duke has offers to 2 power forwards currently, Reid Travis and Kevon Looney, both are highly rated but Duke has been on Looney the longest. Does this interest in Travis mean a cooling with Looney? And is it possible to land both?

Lets examine who Duke will definitely be losing next year:

  • Andre Dawkins
  • Josh Hairston
  • Tyler Thornton
  • Todd Zafirovski

Also, take into account Duke has a commitment from Grayson Allen currently, which leaves 3 spots guaranteed open.  Now it is possible Duke could lose Jabari Parker and or Rodney Hood after this year and with both expected to be high value picks in next years draft it is probable. Theoretically, if Duke were lucky or unlucky enough that both players have draft-worthy years then 6 spots open up. In my own perfect world Duke could land:

  • Tyus Jones
  • Grayson Allen
  • Justise Winslow
  • Reid Travis
  • Kevon Looney
  • Jahlil Okafor

it won’t happen but wouldn’t that rock? Most likely Duke will only get one of the other (Travis / Looney). Looney quite possibly is a one and done talent, while Travis could be around for a few years so it wouldn’t technically be Duke recruiting over Travis should he decide to commit and Looney decide to join him. Feel free to comment and let me know how you feel on this issue and any knowledge you may have to impart.

  1. I feel like coach k pitched a perfect scenario for Mr. Travis. Chance to play with your life long friend and teammate tyus, which will ease his transition from high school to college having already built that chemistry with tyus. Learn from sum of the vets in the game and become a star. Patience is the key….imao. He Mr. Travis can buy into that, we could get one of the best sleepers in the class of 2014.

  2. I can definitely see that, I just wonder where Looney fits into the equation, if he fits into the equation.

  3. Looney is a differnt animal. I think the staff feels like they can move him around because he is so versatile. This kid can handle, defend, rebound, and a exceptional shot blocker. Similar to Jabari’s recruitment, after he committed he said that no other college could offer him a chance to play all positions on the court except for Duke. Im confident Looney is thinking the same way. And it doesn’t hurt that Mr. Parker was Looney’s host on his official last weekend.

  4. I feel u on that. It will be a battle tho. Good news is Duke had an in-home visit with Tyus Monday and Travis on the same day. Also Travis will on the Duke campus for his official visit tomorrow. And from my sources, he absolutely raves about duke and cant wait for his official. Once he was offered he said that Duke was the offer he was waiting on so im calling it right here right now. Mr. Travis will be our next commit to go along with Grayson….Bank on it!!!

  5. I hope you are correct, I’m ready for Duke to make some noise in recruiting this year. Nothing gets other recruits stirring and thinking about your school like seeing other kids committing.

  6. True. Whats gonna make it sweeter is the fact that currently UNC has the #1 recuiting class. I can see the scenario of duke getting Travis first and then once tyus and jahlil announce for duke its over my friends. Tarholes will likely put the ball down and walk off the court….imao. Hell, Jordan wont be able to save UNC this year!!! I cant wait…

  7. I honestly think the chances are better this year than last year, Quinn Cook having a strong year is the key, all of those guys can score but if Quinn puts the ball in the right hands at the right time i think they can be unstoppable.

  8. I agree. I love his swag on the court….true leader. Plus the sheed is an absolute star in the making. Most people dnt realize this kid Rodney hood ability. A sure fire pro. I seen him in person at the Champions Classic last year in Atlanta during warmups and he was raining 3’s from half court with regularity, tomahawk and 360 dunks with authority. Im telling u fam, the crazies are gonna lose their minds when we get out the break in Cameron :0

  9. The game I have circled on my calendar and plan on attending is the game in Chicago against Kansas. The atmosphere is gonna be ridiculous. With Chicago being Coach K’s hometown and Jabari’s hometown, I already know jabari is gonna put on an absolute show. Wiggins vs. Parker showdown….

  10. Let me know if you take pics or have any cool stories and I’ll post about it in addition to my regular game write up

  11. Duke nation show sum love to Mr. Travis who will be on campus today for his official visit.
