Division 1 coaches perked up with the announcement that 2015 combo guard Austin Grandstaff would re-open his recruitment after originally pledging to Oklahoma State. The 6’4 guard is an uber competitor and is very adept at getting himself to the tin. Grandstaff goes hard and does what you want in a guard, gets going north to south right at and into his defenders and has very good economy of movement. He has a very good first step and uses his dribble very well to get separation and to elude defenders when need be. There isn’t a lot he can’t do at the guard spot, don’t let the rankings fool you Grandstaff is as elite as they come at the position and whichever school lands him is getting a winner. Underrated as a shooter he can light it up from all over the court and drives the ball well.
Austin’s de-commitment does not mean that Oklahoma State is no longer in the running but does open the doors for other schools to pitch and persuade him towards a better fit. Austin has said that Duke is still in the running and with no commitments in the class of 2015, Durham could possibly be a destination for the Texas guard.
Washington is the latest school to offer Austin after his de-commitment, Iowa State has as offered as well and there will be plenty of others in the coming days and weeks.
Peep the death stare Austin gives the kid in the last video, priceless.
