Duke vs Brown
Duke and Brown have met just four times previously, with the Blue Devils leading the series 3-1…The teams last met November 25, 1994 -- an 80-38 Duke victory at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The Bears are led in scoring by Brandon Anderson at 21 points per game. Anderson is also the leading assist man at 3.8 per game and averages a team best 1.9 steals per contest. The leading rebounder for Brown is Tamenang Choh with 8.3 rebounds per game to go with his 14.2 points per game. The Bears have 3 players averaging in double figures rounded out by guard Zach Hunsaker who averages 10.7 points per game. The Bears are an older team that starts 3 seniors and 2 juniors.
Players to Watch
In addition to starting guard Brandon Anderson being an important player for the Bears and leading them in 3 statistical categories, David Mitchell brings 4.7 rebounds off the bench for the Bears (tied for second on the team).
The Blue Devils return from their holiday break at 10-1 and 1-0 in the ACC. The last action the Blue Devils saw was a thumping of Wofford ( 86-57) on the 19th of December. The Blue Devils are led in scoring by Vernon Carey Jr. who comes in averaging just under a double-double with 18.6 points per game and 9.3 rebounds. Carey Jr. is also averaging a team leading 2.2 blocks per game and has been the most consistent offensive threat for the Blue Devils. Sophomore Tre Jones is averaging 15.6 points per game and is leading the Blue Devils is assists at 7.1 per game. Jones is also averaging 2.1 steals per contest for the Blue Devils. Cassius Stanley and Matthew Hurt round out the double figure scorers for the Blue Devils - averaging 10.7 and 10.6 points per game respectively.
The Blue Devils as a team are 8th in the nation in scoring, 14th in shot-blocking, and 60th in steals. They are limiting their opponents to under 65 points per game so far this season which is good for 50th.
The Blue Devils have an obvious advantage in terms of talent and overall size in this game but it will remain to be seen whether the break and limited practice time takes it's toll on the young Devils. I expect a slower start to this one but for Duke to kick into gear toward the end of the first half.
