Per Duke Comms:

Former Duke men’s basketball standouts Paolo Banchero and Brandon Ingram have been selected as members of the USA Men’s National Team roster for the upcoming 2023 FIBA Men’s World Cup, held Aug. 25-Sept. 10 in Manila. With Banchero and Ingram, at least one Blue Devil has competed in each of the last seven FIBA World Cups since 1998.

Banchero and Ingram are members of the 12-player U.S. squad that is seeking its sixth overall World Cup title and third title in the last four iterations of the event. Both former Blue Devils have previous USA Basketball experience but are making their first appearance on a FIBA World Cup roster for the United States.

The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year and No. 1 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, Banchero previously attended USA Basketball Junior National Team minicamps in 2019. Ingram, the NBA Most Improved Player in 2020, was a finalist for the 2020 USA Men’s National Team and was also a member of the 2016 USA Men’s Select Team and training with the 2016 Olympic squad prior to the Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Fourteen times previously have Blue Devils competed in the FIBA World Cup – 11 times on Team USA – including Jayson Tatum and Mason Plumee playing for the United States in 2019. Hall of Fame former head coach Mike Krzyzewski led the United States to a pair of golds at the World Cup — in 2014 with Plumlee and Kyrie Irving, and in 2010.

Former Blue Devil Grant Hill is the USA Basketball Men’s National Team managing director.

The final American roster also consists of Mikal Bridges (Brooklyn Nets), Jalen Brunson (New York Knicks), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves), Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers), Josh Hart (Knicks), Jaren Jackson Jr. (Memphis Grizzlies), Cam Johnson (Brooklyn Nets), Walker Kessler (Utah Jazz), Bobby Portis (Milwaukee Bucks) and Austin Reaves (Los Angeles Lakers).

The U.S. is slotted into Group C for the event and open play against New Zealand on Aug. 26, followed by matchups against Greece (Aug. 28) and Jordan (Aug. 30). The New Zealand and Greece contents tip off at 8:40 a.m. ET with Jordan starting at 4:40 a.m. ET.

Before arriving in Manila, the USA Men’s National Team will hold training camp Aug. 3-6 in Las Vegas before playing a series of exhibition games as part of the USA Basketball Showcase, which tips off Aug. 7 vs. Puerto Rico at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena. The USA will also face Slovenia on Aug. 12 and Spain on Aug. 13 in Malaga, Spain, and Greece and Germany on Aug. 18 and 20, respectively, in Abu Dhabi.
