Duke on the strength of 27 assist (ACCT record) and 22 points from freshman Kyle Filipowski demolished the Pitt Panthers 96-69. The Blue Devils came out firing on all cylinders and rushed out to a 12-0 lead and never really looked back. With Tyrese Proctor running the offense and dishing out 10 dimes the Blue Devil offense clicked and shades of what Jon Scheyer has been hoping for all season materialized. Possibly more crucial than the offense Duke’s defense was locked in – the Blue Devils chased the Panthers off of the 3 point line, only allowing 5-18 shooting (28%) for the Panthers for the game.
In addition to Filipowski’s 22 points, the Blue Devils got double-figure scoring efforts from Tyrese Proctor (11), Dereck Lively (13) and Mark Mitchell (12). Jeremy Roach added 9 points and 6 assists in the win that saw the Blue Devils shoot 42% from beyond the arc and 62% overall from the floor.
Duke dominated the Panthers in the paint to the tune of at 46-30 advantage in points there. Duke also led in points off of turnovers with a 17 to 9 advantage. Next up for the Blue Devils is a date with the Miami Hurricanes.
